Finding Balance With Writing & Life: Getting Organized

About ten years ago, a friend introduced me to FlyLady at www.flylady.net, whose practices helped me learn how to manage and organize my household. With time, practice and patience, I managed to juggle my family, my business and other responsibilities without stressing out. When we are trying to balance family, work, life and writing, it can be a juggling act. Many times, we see others handle their responsibilities with grace and feel we’re all alone. But you’re not alone. The key to my household and business management was getting organized. The same goes with my writing. Now I’m keeping track of two demanding careers, managing my family, maintaining church responsibilities and finding time to take care of myself. I needed to designate an office space in my house. For years, […]

Marketing Via Video Part 2: Video Ideas & Tips

Interest piqued by last week’s post on why you should consider adding videos to your author marketing strategy? Suh-weet. Today’s post is for you! (For the video-phobes, it’s okay. Simply put, not every marketing strategy is for everybody. In which case, see you next week!) Today I’d like to offer some ideas for videos you might create to support your author platform. Creating videos isn’t for everyone. So if it’s not your cup of tea, that’s okay. BUT I happen to think there are some great reasons to consider adding videos to your author marketing strategies. Here are just a few: 1) As writers, we’re often told the best way to meet and attract an agent or editor is by attending a writing conference. […]

Learning from Fairytales: Creating the Perfect Hero

We’re back to the fairytale and the indomitable hero. If you want to read what Tolkien says about fairytales, have at it. Here’s a link. If you pair it down to something akin to a Happy Meal, shot me an email! I’d like to read it. As much as I appreciate Tolkien’s exegesis on the fairytale, and probably his brilliance far above my own, I can’t get into the long details and descriptions. It’s like a doctoral study. I need a Ph. D.  handed to me when I’m done reading it. So, I have to go with a more modern and brief description of the fairytale hero. Let’s recap from the web site Den of Geeks about heroines: “We don’t care who they are, or what it is that makes them interesting. They […]
