The challenge to waiting for something is believing it will happen, and that it’s worth the wait. It’s the confrontation we all face when we’re climbing a mountain, running a race, trying to lose weight. It’s the same challenge we face when we’re writing a book and praying for a contract. We put our frail hopes on the line that we won’t be disappointed.
This issue of Voices was worth the wait.
Believing in our dreams, our writing abilities, God’s provision – these themes are what writers cling to as they venture forward on their writing journey, and these themes are a powerful way to start our second year as an online magazine. MBT is changing, growing and we’re believing in great things as we grow with it. Voices Editor Lisa Jordan’s article reminds us all that we’re not left alone on our journey, and great things await us when we trust.
What a rich issue of encouragement. Starting with our Prayer Coordinator Dr. Reba Hoffman’s thoughts on pushing forward to live our dreams to Patricia Woodside’s article on how to start your writing journey, everything you need to believe in your journey is here.
How do you build a powerful character? Read MBT Therapist Rachel Hauck’s excellent therapist thought on flawed characters. Roxanne Sherwood has an insightful article on creating careers for your characters – something that is essential for powerful plotting and characterization. And Edie Melson delivers a straight-forward clinic on writing dialogue. An interview with Rachelle Gardner, one of CBA’s premier agents, as well as Chip MacGregor’s and Joyce Hart’s insights about targeting specific publishing houses will help direct you on your path.
Beth Vogt, our mentoring program director, talks about the dynamic relationship between a mentor and mentee in preparation for our upcoming Mentoring Path.
Listen to your other Voices speak out: Ask the Therapist features an insightful question and answer about formula writing and researching setting, and in Journey with the Voices, the Voices offer their hints about streamlining the editing process.
Don’t forget to read our flash fiction winner’s entry, and if you need more help on your journey, check out the Voices chat transcripts and forum.
Most of all, check out our featured fiction of the month! Those are your Voices on the bookshelves!
I can’t wait to unveil all the helps MBT is developing to assist you on your journey. I believe this year will be one that surprises and blesses us all. And it starts with the February 2011 issue of the Voices e-zine.
Thanks for reading!
