Thanksgiving Prescription

I woke up this morning to a memory. Twenty years ago, I met my husband’s family for the first time. They’re an…exuberant bunch. Loud, with lots of love to go around. Right now, there are about eight of them sitting around the kitchen table, playing Challenge Suduko. We have a total of about 40 immediate family milling around the house.

I’m hiding in the bedroom…much like I did twenty years ago. It’s sensory overload. Love overload. *grin*. But I’m glad to be here, and even more glad that I didn’t have to get up at 5am to put in the turkey!

Your assignment for the day: Enjoy. Let go of your manuscript for the day and take in the senses and sounds of the holiday. If you want to…write those senses down to help you capture the joy. But do it free hand, in a journal, where there’s no editing required. *g* Use them to help you thank God for everything He’s done, and is, in your life.

Here’s mine. The sound of a baby crying downstairs makes me thankful that my own children are healthy and happy (and able to feed and dress themselves!). The smell of the turkey makes me thankful that we are stateside for Holiday, and I’m not searching the market for turkey legs (the only “turkeyish” thing available for many years!). The taste of coffee, and the curl of hunger in my stomach reminds me that it’s okay to be hungry…because I’ll be full later! And the way my daughter is leaning next to me (waiting to use the computer!) hints to me that someday, it’ll be my children returning home from parts far and wide, and I’ll be the one hosting 40. (I hope).

You may be surprised…you could even find another story idea somewhere in there….

Have a great Thanksgiving day!
