Changes to Tweetdeck or Why I Moved to Hootsuite

This time last year I  shared with you my discovery of the social media manager, Tweetdeck (www.tweetdeck.com). I was thrilled with its versatility and all the options it  offered. Fast forward to this year  and Twitter has since acquired Tweetdeck and my love affair with this program  has waned. It no longer offers many of the options that helped me organize and manage my social networking. Here are just a few that have gone missing. •The  ability to copy and paste something into updates. •The  general ease of navigation that made this program so simple. •The live  timeline that pops up no matter what you’re working on. •The easy  interface between Tweetdeck and Facebook. Because of these changes  I’ve switched programs and now use Hootsuite (www.hootsuite.com) almost exclusively. There are drawbacks to Hootsuite, but now I […]

Learn the Basics of Google Plus

I know a lot of you are fed up with Facebook. But it’s important to realize that even though there are new options on the social media frontier, most of your fans are still on Facebook. That said, there’s a new player in the game and many believe it’s going to become a major player. Building Your Own Facebook Landing Page Using Free Templates

As I’ve mentioned before, a landing page is a critical component for a successful Facebook fan page. Although you may have to invest a couple of hours, it’s well worth the effort. There are several different place you can go to develop your page. The two I’ve found easiest are Wix (www.wix.com)  and Pagemodo (http://www.pagemodo.com/?r=free_footer).   Both of these offer free and subscription based options. I used Wix for my author landing page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Edie-Melson/212307145501921?sk=wall) and Pagemodo for the landing page for Fighting Fear: Winning the War at Home (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fighting-Fear-Winning-the-War-at-Home/210008849071555?sk=wall). I wanted the opportunity to try out both and see if one offered a better product than the other. You can visit both pages and see for yourself the two different looks they offered.   I found them to be very […]

Facebook Changes and How it Affects Users

I have to admit, the title of this post, along with the truth it reflects, just makes me tired. It has become almost a full-time job just trying to keep up with Facebook changes. So why is Facebook rolling out so many new changes and tweaks? In my opinion, it’s because of Google Plus. Those who developed Google + have addressed some of the major headaches associated with Facebook. Now Facebook is in a desperate game of catch-up. Personally, I think they’re fighting a losing battle. I already prefer Google + in its simplicity and ease of use.
