So, we’re having a great discussion over on VOICES about our HERO….brainstorming WHO he is, and his greatest fears and dreams… Meanwhile, let’s talk about our Heroine. Who is the PERFECT Gal for our man, and vice versa? So, a great romance isn’t E-harmony. It isn’t finding that compatible person, (oh we both love classical music, we’re both excellent chefs…) – it’s discovering that inside that person is the one you’ve waited for. It’s that deeper element, discovering that that one person understand you, and meets that deepest longing of your heart. But along the way, we want a few SPARKS. So, as you’re thinking about a Heroine, you need to consider; Why/Why Not? Why do they belong together, and why not? What holds them apart…and yet, what deeper connection […]

Finding the right Heroine is just a spark away…
Our HERO is…
The Voices have spoken! Our book is SET in East Tennessee! AND: Our hero is an everyday champion – Carpenter/Contractor, Rancher/Farmer, Teacher, Businessman – could be a coach, or a journalist, a coffee shop owner, a health-club instructor, a librarian, or even a….insurance salesman! Anything we want, but he has to be a regular Joe. So – where do we go from here? This is the fun part, (okay, it’s all fun in my book), but now we get to discuss WHO our character is. When you’re trying to figure out a character, knowing WHO he helps us figure out his conflicts. Here’s how it works: Let’s say that he’s a teacher. And since our book is set in East Tennessee, let’s make a small town there his hometown, maybe […]

So, are you still thinking? Hockey player from Minnesota? Perhaps a country music singer from East Tennesse? How about an EMT from New York City? Or are you going to mix it up — an EMT from North Carolina, and a Top Chef from East Tennessee… We could get really creative! If you want to discuss it, head over to VOICES – the Blog-A-Book HERO forum! Don’t forget to vote! Every Voice Counts! Online Surveys & Market Research Online Surveys & Market Research
Read the RestWHERE should our story take place?
Where your story takes place is nearly as important as WHO is in your story. Every place in this great world has its unique stories, landmarks, histories, and it will become a part of your story. Also, different places lend themselves to different professions — Firefighters in NYC are different than wildland firefighters in Yellowstone. A country singer from Nashville is bound to be different than a Bluegrass picker from East Tennesse. And there aren’t too many mountain guides in Florida, but I’d hate to see a Canoe guide from Northern MN trying to figure out the everglades. (However — it’s often those paradoxes that make a great story!) So, think about our setting – where would you like to put our hero, and how does it lend itself (or […]
