Four Gifts No Writer Can Do Without, Part 4: Hope

As we place the period at the end of a roller coaster year and usher in a brand new 2013, the one thing a writer absolutely can NOT do without is hope. There are many reasons why people have lost hope in their dreams of being an author. I’m sure you know many of the reasons so I won’t use precious word count to name them. What is important to list is all the reasons why you should have hope, and why you simply can’t be without it. Hope is the fuel that churns the engine of creativity. Conversations: The journey of a self-pubbed author – part one

Today, on Conversations, I’m excited to talk to another author  (Sorry Sally – you’ll be back next week) who I was privileged to work with this year.  This is a long interview, so I’ve broken it into two parts (today and tomorrow!) Since I was a teenager I loved plot. If the story kept me turning pages by flashlight after bedtime, […]

Building Your Tribe, Part One: Why Bother?

Some writers don’t think this is an important part of their career. Others are terrified by the thought of networking, putting themselves out there, or becoming vulnerable to criticism. Most of the rub comes from not understanding what tribes really are. They are groups of faithful followers who believe in you and your writing. They are the ones who will offer free copies of your books to others. They come to your book launches, either in person or on the web. There are many reasons why you should build your tribe. Here are a few. Members of your tribe believe in you. Your tribe is made up of those who will celebrate the good times with you, and encourage you during the challenging ones. And in those times, it’s great […]
