The Greatest!

Hello from beautiful Montana! I’m skiing this week with the fam, so this will be my only post, but I’m itching to get our hero off the sofa and out on his journey, so I had to give you the last tool we’ll need to craft our story and head our hero in the right direction. I call them the GREATEST devices. Or, the Greatest Fear and the Greatest Dream. The Greatest Fear A few weeks ago we talked about the fears of our hero –things that deepen his characterization, and add texture, and opportunities for the heroine to know him and grow as a hero. But deeper than his surface fears is his Greatest Fear. It’s that soul deep dread that he would do anything to avoid. It’s this […]

Beautiful Examples

I’ve really appreciated the examples of beauty that you Voices submitted this week! Here’s a few that really answer what true beauty is: From Camille ~ When Ian firsts sees Emily, he has a strong reaction on two counts which tangle together and bother him because he intends to avoid involvement. First off, she is not the dumpy little spinster he always pictured her to be, which is very clear right off the bat because she’s young (28 is still thought young, right?) pretty and carries herself gracefully.. First thing he notices after “young and pretty” is her warm smile and soft, warm voice. Something he hasn’t been around for a long time. (Susie here – that’s a vacancy, and a way that she “fills” it) After spending a day […]

Irresistible…that’s what you are….

(I have songs in my head this week). Sorry about missing yesterday’s post. I was creating my own irresistibleness here at home – surprised my daughter and her friends with valentine cupcakes at school, took my hubby out for lunch, and made “love pizza” (don’t get excited – homemade pizza with pepperonis in a heart shape) for the fam last night. Got kisses all around for my efforts (even from my daughter, in front of all her friends!) Irresistible. That’s really what beauty is all about – it’s that compelling “somthingness” that makes a woman (or man) simply take over our hearts. Last time we met, we talked about how beauty either complements or accentuates the “eye of the beholder.” Here’s a few fun examples from some of my favorite […]

You are so beautiful…to me….can’t you see?

(I hope you’re singing along right now!) What makes a woman beautiful? It’s unique to every man, every person. I see beauty in my daughter’s creativity, her independent spirit. My husband sees his daughter’s cheerful smile, the way she admires him. I don’t even what to know what the 16 year old boys in her class see, but I know her friends see someone who listens, who gives wise advice. It’s these inner qualities that make a heroine beautiful. (and likewise, a man handsome!) However, they are specific to each person. So,what does your hero see in your heroine? How do we discover your heroine’s unique beauty? We start “with the eye of the beholder” and we look at their vacancies, and their strengths. 1. What are your beholder’s vacancies? […]
