Chapter 2.1 MacKenzie SMW comments on RH edits

As usual, RH did a superb job of going through this – not only catching some deep POV fixes, but also some structural issues to do with her filmmaking, etc.  Note the discussion about using senses to create a picture of the emotion the POV character is feeling, also.   It so helps to have another set of eyes, doesn’t it?   Note too, there were a couple suggestions RH made that I may incorporate into the next draft, as I clean it up.  Then I’ll hand it to SK, and let the polisher at it!     RH comments highlighted in green, SMW comments highlighted in yellow, and new changes in RED.   As always – if you have any questions, head over to VOICES!   Chapter 2.1 Rough Draft B   “It just feels like running […]

Chapter 1.2 with SMW comments to RH edits. =)

Great edits once again by Rachel!  Note, especially, the thoughts on the HOOK, emotional layering, and dialogue.  It’s hard for me to get the flow of it when it is pieced up like this – so I might make more tweaks before I post the rough draft final tomorrow (or Friday).  As usual, if you have any questions, head over to VOICES and we’ll do our best to answer them in the Chapter 1 discussion.   Note – the pieces I’m keeping are in RED type.  The original is in black, without highlights.     Chapter 1.2   Reverend William Archibald Lewis Alexander, the third, former pastor of the Normandy Ridge Bible Baptist church, decorated Vietnam Vet, widower husband of thirty-five faithful years to Miss Darlene Parker, and father of […]

Live vs. Truth = Spiritual Epiphany

Does my hero HAVE to believe in a lie?    We get this question sometimes when we’re working with clients in a Book Therapy session.  Clients have done so much work creating the character, trying to figure out who he is, and it just seems like another mindless question.    It’s not.  In fact, I build my characters on just a few key questions, the most important ones that comprise our lives.  You’ve seen some of them in this process…greatest fears, greatest dreams, values, motivations.  The Lie They Believe is one of the essential questions that threads throughout the entire book.  Without the lie, you don’t know what the truth is you’re aiming for.  Without the lie, you don’t know how he/she builds their lives, what their view on […]

We have faces and names!

Our hero looks like….Dylan Bruno! (And if you ever want to see this actor in action, check him out on Numbers, Friday nights!) His name is…Luke. I love that name. Jaxon and Caleb came in close seconds…which means, if we can, we’ll use those names for secondary characters. =). Our heroine looks like: Isla Fisher! (If you’re wondering where you’ve seen her face before…check out the new Shopaholic movie!) And her name will be…MacKenzie! We’ll have to see if our hero ends up calling her Mac..or Kenzie…or…??? Mia came in second…she sounds like a good friend for MacKenzie. So, so there we have it….faces, and names for our hero and heroine! In the meantime, don’t forget to hop over to Club Book Therapy and add your VOICE to the Inciting […]
