This week and next we’re talking about the elements that make a great heroine! We all want to read stories about women we can relate to, maybe call up for coffee or perhaps see a bit of ourselves in. Often we focus on our heroine’s flaws, ’cause no one is perfect, but there are a couple of outstanding qualities that make a great heroine in the midst of her flaws and weaknesses. Confidence. Think about it. Confidence draws us to people. Confidence is a quality that helps us overcome difficult circumstances. In our stories, our heroines are going to encounter hard times, obstacles and disappointment. If not, we’ve got a pretty boring book going. But it’s the inner quality of confidence that helps her push through and find a way […]

Being a confident heroine
This week we’ll be talking about heroine’s, so we thought we’d start off with a little encouragement to the heroine within each one of us. Did you know love is the most powerful force we can possess? International speaker Mike Bickle says, “there’s no force more powerful than a loved woman.” Or, one who is confident in love. Think about it. It’s true. All of our weaknesses and insecurities are rooted in self doubt, wondering if we are accepted and loved. Too often we look to people for this affirmation of love. People fail us. Even those closest to us will disappoint and let us down. There is only one way to be confident in love. Finding your source and identity in Jesus. In Genesis 15:1, God told Abraham, “I […]
Read the RestNoble Theme Devotional
This weeks verse, as we talk about the hero’s journey, is Psalm 45. My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer. God has instilled in us a noble theme or noble cause. It may be to protect those we love, earn a nice living, be missionaries in foreign lands or ministry to the poor and needy. We should all look for ways to minister to one another. After all, Jesus commands us in John 15 to love one another. However, we also have a Noble theme, purpose, before the Lord. He’s given us access to Him through His son, Jesus. We are not longer veiled ones, kept outside the inner room, but we […]
Read the RestPicks: Brad Whittington’s Welcome to Fred
I’ve known Brad, at a distance, for a few years. He’s a fun, albeit quirky guy, the good kind of quirky, with a sparkle in his eye, capturing the oddities of life. I’ve had his book, Welcome to Fred, for awhile and finally settled down to read it. It’s a first person account of Mark, a PK (preacher’s kid) and his adolescent journey. After living in Ohio for four years, his father takes a church in Fred, Texas. Mark is definitely out of step with his long hair, bell bottoms and beads in this farming, cowboy, jeans-wearing town. While feeling like a misfit throughout most of the book, Mark adapts, makes friends and discovers life. Whittington has a great voice. A true first person storyteller with lovely writing and the […]
