Today on MyBookTherapy, Rachel Hauck will shamelessly promote her newest release, “Love Starts With Elle,” coming July 8, 2008 from Thomas Nelson. “Hauck is quickly making a name for herself as an insightful and thoughtful author. Elle is vulnerable, yet wise, and the romantic angle will leave you sighing with delight.” Melissa Parcel, Romantic Times Book Club, 4.5 Stars and Top Pick (whoo hoo, cheers and clapping.) Here’s a bit about the book. (whoo hoo, cheers and clapping.) Elle’s living the dream – but is it her dream or his? Elle loves life in Beaufort, South Carolina – lazy summer days on the sand bar, coastal bonfires and dinner with friends sharing a lifetime of memories. And she’s found her niche as the owner of a successful art gallery too. […]

The God of Romance
MyBookTherapy is entering a fun writing phase – talking about romance! Now, lest you groan, all stories have romance – at some level. You can’t get away from it. We’re going to look at the romantic journey, discovering the soul mate, the arch of the romantic plot. Even if romance or a relationship is a sub plot, you’ll need to make sure it’s viable enough to capture the reader. I’m a big fan of the biblical book, Song of Solomon, because it depicts God’s heart toward the believer. Yes, a man wrote the poetic prose, but I spent several years unearthing the symbolism and metaphorical language of this great book and came away with this conclusion: Jesus is in love with His Bride. Read the RestWhere oh where are my therapists?
We’re here, we’re here! How’s everyone in MyBookTherapy land? We got into a busy crunch and figured y’all could use a break from our relentless blogging. There’s tons of good stuff on the site to review if you’re new to the community! Well, Susie had a fun weekend in Minneapolis with long time friends, then last night attended the IJM dinner in same city. Her hubby came along for the event and they are spending some quality time together. IJM is International Justice Mission focusing on human rights abuse, specifically human trafficking. Susie’s latest book, Wiser Than Serpents, deals with this issue. Be sure to add it to your summer reading list. While we don’t want to write agenda fiction, stories are a great venue for raising social awareness. She’ll […]

I meant to post yesterday, Friday, but the day got away from me. Sorry, team. This is our final post on tension for now. No promises about the future. What mechanical ways can we show tension in our writing? Word choice. Short sentences. Entering the scene late, exiting early. Let’s try a scene: The wind blowing over the prairie was hot and dry as Mikaila urge her horse forward, scraping her fingers through her long blonde hair. Her cornflower blue eyes caught sight of a billowing cloud of dust rising from the horizon line, a mushroom from the earth, she thought. Wonder who it might be? She let her mind drift toward Cole who waited for her back at the ranch. They’d fought, about nothing. But she speed away on […]
