When Things Heat Up, Part 3: A Snowball’s Chance in a Really Hot Place!

I know. Sometimes you feel that’s about all the chance you have of living your dream. The cursor on the blank screen haunts you and your Aunt Gertrude tells you to give up those crazy pipe dreams of being an author. After all, working at the Piggly Wiggly’s good ‘nough for her, it should be for you, too.

And the momentum you’ve gained from the snowball rolling downhill begins to melt as things heat up. Soon, you’re left in a puddle of disappointment and despair. It’s enough to make never want to climb the cold mountain again.

But can I tell you something? The greatest achievements in the world have occurred just beyond where people wanted to give up. It’s true! And, the greatest failures have occurred when people stopped just short of success.

Dreams have power. Power to extinguish very hot flames with a snowball. Power to create a best-selling novel. Power to boldly go where Aunt Gertrude has never gone before! Sure, you’ll need to work hard. Probably harder than you’ve ever worked in your life but that work produces momentum. With that momentum, at some point, you’ll have a snowball so big, even that very hot place can’t hold a candle to it.

When you begin to feel like the frigid snowball that’s headed straight for an inferno, remember these things. They’ll help you cool off.

1) A snowball’s chance is still a chance. There’s hope even in a minute chance. As long as there is a breath of life, there is hope. And hope floats which is great news when you’re drowning in despair.

2) Momentum is an unstoppable force.  When your nice, big, cool snowball comes barreling down the mountain with the momentum you’re gaining right now, It will crash through the gates of even the hottest places and keep right on going.

3) When snow melts, it puts out the fire. So the snowball rolling into that very hot place, rather than that being a bad thing, it actually cools things off. And, the bigger your snowball, the more fires you can put out.

And here you thought that a snowball’s chance was impossible! On the contrary. The key to making it all work out in your favor is to gain momentum. Tell yourself you will live your dream. Say it out loud. Every day! Tell Aunt Gertrude! If she doesn’t agree with your dream, toss her in the snowball! Ok, not really but you get my point!

A snowball’s chance… that’s a GREAT thing and you have more of a chance than that!

What crazy things have you been told when it comes to living your dream? Why not share it here?
