Dealing With Disappointment

Many of you recently attended the ACFW annual conference in Indianapolis. Those who did pinned hopes on getting some sort of exciting news or opportunity. MBT Voices overall received overwhelmingly positive news. So why am I writing this? Because with the sweet comes the bitter. They always go hand in hand.

I’ve dealt with and helped people through disappointment for decades. There are some things I’ve seen in the circumstance that contributes to the emotion of disappointment that I want to share.

Having Unrealistic Expectations. Truly there are novice novelists who go to their first conference expecting that the biggest publishers in the industry will stand in line to snatch up their masterpiece…that hasn’t quite been finished. Ok, it really hasn’t been written yet, but with a contract in hand, they could stay up late one night and write it.

Romance Writers, I’m Calling You Out

I’ve noticed something lately in romance stories. First in my own works and then in others. That is the over focus of how the hero or heroine views the other physically. Tightening The Middle

Tony Horton is the king of getting a body into shape. His methods work. His Ab Ripper X routine is fifteen minutes of 339 core moves. Half way into the routine, you want to quit. But you know you can’t, so you cheat. Instead of doing all the reps in a series, you do it half heartedly or only half the move. Fine. As long as you keep going. Work harder the next time. That’s they way you build up endurance. The way you build your abs. Doing all of the reps all of the time. It’s the same with a middle of the novel. You have to “work out” the middle of you book. Rip it! Get it lean and mean. A lot of times the middle of a book […]
