Reba Hoffman counsels on beating the winter bludes

Blast the Winter Blues, Part One: Hibernate Wisely

Most of the country is knee deep in snow and ice of the mid-winter blues. Going out is like having a root canal, a very painful experience. You’d rather pass, thank you very much. You’re hibernating. I get it. Ok, since I live in central Florida, I don’t suppose I totally get it. But, hang with me here. This is for your own good. I was telling her about a conversation I had with the great Matt Jones at Jones House Creative about writing. I told him, “Your dream is worth your effort.” He in kind, immortalized the line in a screen saver for me to used and remember! It’s so true. Your dream is worth your effort. Worth your time. Don’t let anyone or anything steal it. TV? Not worth it. I laugh at Hollywood award ceremonies. They want me to watch them give awards to each other? Well hey, Hollywood, show up at ACFW Carol Awards this year. Watch us give awards to […]

Four Gifts No Writer Can Do Without, Part 4: Hope

As we place the period at the end of a roller coaster year and usher in a brand new 2013, the one thing a writer absolutely can NOT do without is hope. There are many reasons why people have lost hope in their dreams of being an author. I’m sure you know many of the reasons so I won’t use precious word count to name them. What is important to list is all the reasons why you should have hope, and why you simply can’t be without it. Hope is the fuel that churns the engine of creativity. To be a successful writer, you must be creative and that is not possible unless you have hope. Hope is the magic that takes you to your happy place. Ok, at the […]
