When Things Heat Up, Part One: If You Can’t Take the Heat. . .

Most of the country completely skipped over spring and went right to scorching summer heat. Wow! For writers, June also means getting your manuscript ready to pitch at fall writer’s conferences. This month we’ll discuss the rigors and how to keep your cool when things heat up. I know you’ve heard, “if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.” Well that would be great advice, if you didn’t need to eat. Someone’s got to cook or you don’t eat, right? A better goal would be to learn to endure the heat. Let’s say your heat is not in the kitchen but at a writer’s conference, umm… gulp… in front of all those agents and editors. Showers of Creativity Part Four: Go Forth and Create

We’re at the end of the month and you’ve come through three weeks of discovery and planning to give the world the best of YOU that you can offer. That’s quite an accomplishment. In other words, I’m not gifted in the area of voice. I can sometimes carry a tune… if that tune is in a book that I’m moving from one room to the other. My contribution to the world will not be in song. So, if I really, truly want to make a difference, it simply would be a waste of time for me to take voice lessons. I’m not […]

Showers Of Creativity, Part One: Created in the Image

This month we’re going to journey through showers of creativity. We will look at what that means to you personally and how you can use it for your success, and the benefit of those who will be reading your books. I have to stifle a giggle when people tell me they just aren’t creative. I know that simply isn’t even remotely true. All of us—even those Doubting Thomas family members—were created in the image of God. And God is The Creator. It’s literally impossible for you to not have creativity. I’m a very creative person but if you know what’s good for you, you will NOT trust me to plan your wedding or even a party for you. You’ll wind up with bags of Doritos, paper plates and cans of […]
